A strong chamber results in a strong business community. It’s a simple as that.
Here at the Mareeba Chamber of Commerce, we represent the interests of our members in a variety of ways.
Whether it’s lobbying for a reliable, safe and efficient transport network, the removal of rogue saltwater crocodiles from public waterways or lending support for grant applications, we are front and centre where it matters most.
Front of mind is promoting Mareeba as a vibrant retail, trade supply, professional services and commercial centre, which services not only the Mareeba community, but also satellite areas including the southern Tablelands, Dimbulah, Lakeland and Cape York Peninsula.
The chamber’s most fundamental mission is to generate more business for its members.
We support our members by delivering seminars, workshops and trade displays to keep our members up to date on the issues affecting the business world.
The chamber hosts business lunch meetings, generally quarterly, and attracts high-quality guest speakers, many experts in their fields, to speak on topical issues.
Topics range from business needs like training and human resources to hearing from stakeholders about projects, or political representatives.
We don’t profess to know everything – we are a voice for the business community – and are conscious to ensure we survey our members on topical issues, where appropriate.
While we celebrate our wins and raise issues mainstream and social media, some of our work is carried out behind-the-scenes, via correspondence, meetings and representations with key stakeholders.
Results of lobbying efforts take time and are often repetitive, yet progress is made.
Having a voice at the table where decisions are made is just as important and we are fortunate that the members of our executive are often given the opportunity to voice concerns and represent the business interests of the Mareeba community on various committees and forums.
